Ever Feel Like...An evening with MURUGIAH
2 July 2026
Hear from illustrator, artist and designer MURUGIAH as he reflects on his first solo exhibition with Matt Alagiah.
MURUGIAH first trained in architecture before pivoting his creative path to illustration, establishing a multi-disciplinary practise spanning painting, public sculpture, film poster and book cover commissions, and more. He is now known globally for his kaleidoscopic visual world, where he builds layered compositions using bold colours and a surreal and psychedelic aesthetic, drawing inspiration from his Sri Lankan heritage and 1990s pop culture.
Developing an authentic artistic practise true to his own identity, experiences and feelings has always been an important focus for MURUGIAH.
In this talk, he will reflect on the personal narratives that lie behind his most recent works. MURUGIAH will discuss his creative journey and working process and share insights into the new works created for the exhibition, including a series of paintings and a new installation.
MURUGIAH will be joined in conversation by journalist and former editor-in-chief of It’s Nice That, Matt Alagiah.
Matt Alagiah is a magazine editor and writer based in London. From 2018 to 2024, he was editor-in-chief of It's Nice That, one of the world's leading publications for the design and creative industries. Before that, he worked for Monocle magazine. Nowadays, Matt writes about design and other topics for The Observer Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and a variety of other publications.
