Props by Paula Rego
South Gallery, House of Illustration
12 November 2014 - 22 March 2015
A trio of recent props from Rego’s studio
This display of handmade figures provided a new perspective on Paula Rego’s work.
Props like these are the subject of many of Rego’s prints, drawings and pastels, and seeing them offered a rare and intimate glimpse at her working practice.
The three props on display were selected by Rego herself for exhibit, and were made in 2014 with her model and long-time collaborator Lila Nunes. They have recently been used in the creation of a new series based on renowned Portuguese author José Maria de Eça de Queiroz's novel Cousin Bazilio.
