Pictogram

A graphic symbol that conveys meaning by resembling a real-world object. Early writing systems such as Sumerian Cuneiform and Egyptian hieroglyphs evolved from pictograms, and they are widely used today for such purposes as hazard signage, wayfinding and representing data.
