Shojo Manga: The World of Japanese Girls' Comics

South Gallery, House of Illustration
18 March – 12 June 2016

Japanese shōjo manga (girls’ comics)

Japan's shōjo manga culture dates back to the post-war years but only evolved into its broad-ranging and hugely-popular form of today as a result of the innovative work of a small group of artists in the 1970s.

This exhibition, on tour in the UK, explored the work of pioneering artists Keiko Takemiya, Yukiko Kai, and Akiko Hatsu through elaborate Genga' prints.
