Crossing Time

Granary Square, King’s Cross
13 February – 10 March 2016

An illuminated interactive installation inspired by King’s Cross past and present

Crossing Time was an illuminated, interactive exterior installation by illustrator Paddy Molloy, commissioned by House of Illustration.

For a period of 27 days from Saturday 13 February 2016, the installation would come to life at sunset: a multi-layered structure transformed by projected animation and images, reflecting the history and imagery of King's Cross past and present.

Molloy was inspired by the history of King's Cross, particularly the King's Cross monument, built in 1830, which housed a camera obscura that cast its eye on a period of rapid industrial development.

Crossing Time was a new 'eye' on the landscape: a contemporary reference to this camera obscura whereby historic and structural references to King’s Cross, together with personal experiences and reminiscences of the site today, were translated into icons and textures and projected onto the structure.

Shapes installed outside along with a text display with an illustrated fish coming out of it.
